VILLAGE OF AMESVILLE: HOME OF THE COONSKIN LIBRARY
P.O. Box 213 Amesville, Ohio 45711 740-448-2411
Amesville has been granted funds from the Athens City/County Health Department ($2,700) to address concerns about speeding on State Route 550. The village has also received $1,000 from the Athens County Planners Office as part of ACT (Athens County Together). These funds are currently slated to be used as matching dollars for any funds received from ODOT. Guidelines per ODOT are shown below.
Amesville also participated in a planning session with the Athens County Health Department, Toole Associates, ODOT and some village residents to create a "Complete Streets Policy" This policy allows Amesville to seek ODOT and other federal dollars for State Highway improvements and in some cases improvements to local streets. See the policy below.
Amesville is currently collaborating with Buckeye Hills Regional Development District as part of a planning grant request to seek business district improvements as well as activities that will increase local tourism, transportation safety and infrastructure improvements. Amesville also joined the Mayors' Partnership for Progress in their submission for a planning grant through the Appalachian Community Grant Program out of the Governor's Office of Appalachia (GOA) headed up by John Kerry (formerly mayor of Wellston). Amesville is seeking funds from H2Ohio in 2023. Current funding (if received) would provide equipment and support for locating water breaks, exercising water main valves and several other areas of need. Details of H2Ohio can be found at: H2Ohio | An Ohio Partnership for better water statewide
AMESVILLE BECOMES A BEE CITY USA
Bee City USA fosters ongoing dialogue in urban areas to raise awareness of the role native pollinators play in our communities and what each of us can do to provide them with healthy habitat. Research has shown significant declines in pollinator population sizes and ranges globally. The Bee City USA program endorses a set of commitments, defined in a resolution, for creating sustainable habitats for native pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet. Incorporated cities, towns, and communities across America are invited to make these commitments and become certified as a Bee City USA affiliate.
